2012 Outstanding Alumni & Teacher/Mentors

Mrs. Huggins is a Kindergarten teacher at Lincoln Elementary School and was nominated for her professional, inclusive and loving way she treats her students.

Mrs. DiPietro is a Language Arts teacher at AMS 7-8 and was nominated for her creative ways of incorporating her subject matter, and encouraging her students to enjoying reading and creative writing, including poetry.

Mr. Bills is an art and IB art instructor at Adrian High School. His nomination centered around allowing his students to create and treating each and everyone with dignity. As a past track coach, former runners say they learned many life lessons during run practice, not just technique.

Del is the only Adrian High School alum to become Superintendent of Adrian Public Schools. A graduate of the Class of 1961, Del was cited for his "True Blue" Maple affinity, having been a teacher, administrator, superintendent and board member for the school district.

A graduate of the Class of 1962, Sam was honored for his public service. Sam was Adrian's longest serving mayor, and also served as a city councilman and on many committees and task forces.

Harley was honored for his accomplishments in business and industry. Now chairman of the board of Adrian Steel Company, Harley came into the family business in 1976 and increased revenues to over $200 million. He was also applauded for treating employees as highly valuable members of the company team. Harley is a graduate of the class of 1968.

Pat is the President and CEO of Blissfield Manufacturing, a leader in the heating exchange and cooling component industry. The business is now in the fourth generation of family leadership with Pat's sons now involved. Pat, Class of 1973, was cited for his business accomplishments and also his generous support of many community activities.

Julie, from the Class of 1981, was cited for her business accomplishments and her generosity to the community. As president and general manager at WLEN radio, she has accepted numerous awards from the broadcast industry and served on many boards and associations to promote good works within it. WLEN is truly community minded having donated more than $6 million in advertising and time to the community since its founding.

Tobin was recognized as an up-and-coming Young Alumnus. A graduate of the class of 1992, Tobin has made a name for himself in the stage and film industries with his professional set design.Tobin was nominated for a 2012 Tony Award for his set design of the Broadway musical "Newsies."
